SAIT: Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race
Welcome to Leah Herle's Personal Fundraising Page!

Help send our team to Ottawa for the 2016 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race!
I've had the incredible opportunity of being apart of SAIT's 2016 Concrete Toboggan Team. We've put an immeasurable amount of work into our toboggan this year - everything from fundraising to successfully creating our own unique concrete mix. We set out to challenge the norm with a component of our design, and against all odds (and advice given by a few of our instructors) we were successful and made it work! Our determination and innovative thinking paid off. We're super excited to show engineering students from across Canada what we've accomplished and what we're made of - We're even more excited to WIN.
We need to raise the money to cover our transportation costs - flights to Ottawa aren't cheap! Help give us the chance to show Canadian Universities that they've met their match in SAIT's Concrete Toboggan Team.

About Us
We are Ski Force One, a team of SAIT students working together to design and fabricate an incredible toboggan to race at the 2016 GNCTR. This year we are celebrating and representing 100 years of SAIT's excellence!
The 2016 GNCTR is held in our nation’s capital, Ottawa. Our team consists of thirty 1st and 2nd year engineering students from several programs at SAIT. This year’s team includes students from Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology and Engineering Design and Drafting Technology. The SAIT GNCTR 2016 project is a collaboration between these four SAIT programs.
Throughout the semester we are combining our problem solving, communication, and project management skills to design and fabricate an innovative sled to take to the GNCTR event. Every team member has contributed time and effort into making our toboggan one that will impress the judges, competitors, and industry sponsors with our Top Gun themed toboggan.
Why We Do This
We believe it is important for engineering students to transfer their technical and theoretical skills obtained in the classroom, to a real life experience. We can’t think of a better hands on experience than the GNCTR!
How You Can Help
Donations from people like you is what makes it possible for our team to succeed.
With your support we could compete with other reputable Universities and Technology Schools and maintain our overall score from previous years in the top rankings! Our Budget Breakdown
Our total budget is roughly $40,000, but we are getting a helping hand from some corporate sponsors. However, we still need your help! Our goal is to raise $12,000 through ordinary people just like you. Your donations are desperately needed to purchase key components for our sled, and to get our team to Ottawa and back!

It’s the season of giving. With about 75% of our campaign done and only 8 days remaining we need help. We have raised 56% of our goal. Our team is working hard to try and raise funds to get to Ottawa. But to get there we need your help. We are hoping that since it is the season of giving you will be able to help us achieve our goal.
I asked two of the three returning team members to describe the benefits of last years and this year’s project. Team member number one, Hailey Romano a 2nd year MET (mechanical engineering technology) student and this year’s captain of the superstructure. And team member number two, Parker Gavey a 1st year CPM (construction project management) student and this year’s technical display captain.
Question 1:
What benefits did you enjoy from participating in last year’s event?
Hailey
“It was awesome to see all the hard work all the teams had put in. The experience was definitely worthwhile, the hands on experience was helpful. I also enjoyed the sense of a team community as well as the lasting friendships I gained.”
Parker
“I enjoyed the real world experience working on a project with engineers, architects, and managers. I am still friends with some of the team members from last year’s team that are no longer in school, and seeing our toboggan complete so well against other universities is a testament to what our team is capable of.”
Question 2:
What benefits are you enjoying from participating in this year’s project?
Hailey
“This year I learned a ton about project management, leadership, collaboration, and about what an MET might actually do in the industry. It was awesome to see how the whole team has been able to come together to accomplish what was necessary to meet our deadlines.
Parker
“This year I took a more senior role on our team. I enjoyed managing a team of my own and mentoring them to create something amazing. Pushing all the members to fundraise so much to make it possible for our team to travel to Ottawa makes me very proud. Seeing what this team has accomplished over the past few months is amazing.
I encourage you to continue donating and to pass the word so others can help us reach our goal and to give our first year students the benefits that our returning members are enjoying from this experience.
By Gerald Marple
Thank you all for helping us raise money to achieve our goal of attending this year's competition. We are just starting our campaign to raise money but without you our friends and family it will not be possible. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate all and any financial assistance you’re able to give to help us reach our goal.
Thank you.
